Moira rushed to reload her gun as Flynn sounded the retreat. Lorcan’s hound let out a whined as it was thrashed by the undead beast then tossed aside.
The great beast stepped stepped towards them with a snarl, green flames flicked out of it’s maw.
Moira readied her weapon as she stared down the horde.
A scream made her look behind her.
The guards and civilians where huddling together as a wall of bone and rusted metal in closed around them.
“Moira. Come on.” Flynn yelled as he pulled at her arm.
She nodded as gripped her blunderbuss tight and rushed towards the group.
The priestess screamed as she clung to the gravedigger. A dozen blades slashed at the two guards. They blocked several with their rifles, but each suffered several cuts.
Flynn thrust his knife through the back of a revenant’s skull as Moira ran another through with her bayonet. She pulled the trigger and obliterated a dozen more in front of her.
One of the guards fell to the ground, and axe sticking out of his neck. The grave keeper swung his shovel at the undead as they shambled towards him.
“Fuck off ya bastards.” He cried as he cleaved in one of their skulls. He swung again and decapitated another.
“Clover.” Lorcan pointed at the nearest enemy and the hound growled as it dragged the corpse to the ground.
The hoard hissed as they surged forwards.
The last guard cried out as a blade was thrust into his gut. The undead passed by the dying man as he slumped over.
The grave keeper dropped his shovel and clung onto the corpse that stabbed him through the chest. Flynn took vengeance on the creature with his own knife.
Flynn cursed as picked up the grave keeper’s shovel.
Dozens shots rang out, felling several of the hoard.
“Move.” Flynn yelled as he pointed at opening appeared.
“Muriel let’s go.” Lorcan grabbed the priestess. “Clover come.” The hound sprang to his side as they ran.
Hands stretched out to grab them.
Flynn swung his shovel and knocked them away from Lorcan and Muriel.
“Keep going.” He blocked the swipe of an axe with the shovel.
Moira and Flynn where left alone as the pursued the civilians towards the buildings
Moira grabbed Flynn’s arm and stopped him.
He pulled his arm from her grasp and ran forwards.
She grabbed his arm again and pulled him back. “Wait.”
“What?” He yelled.
“We need to rest a moment.” She checked over her shoulder to see the massive bear stumbling towards them and began loading her gun again.
Flynn pointed at Lorcan and Muriel as they clawed at the door of a cabin. “Rest? They’re about to be torn to pieces and you want to rest?”
Another volley of gunfire dropped several more of the corpses rushing towards the civilians.
“Fergus will keep them safe. We need to think of our own survival right now.”
He shook his head and ran after the hoard.
Moira sighed and ran after him.
The hoard was only a few meters from Lorcan and Muriel.
Flynn let out a yell as he drove the shovel into the back of a corpse, shattering their ribs.
The hoard slowed and turned to address him.
Fergus appeared on the roof top and lowered a hand down to Muriel with another guard beside him. Together they pulled her up. Moira watched as Lorcan and Fergus bickered before the hound jumped up the wall and into the guard’s embrace. Lorcan went next.
Flynn swung with abandon at the revenants surrounding him. Heads flew and bones broke as the shovel smashed into them. Flynn yelled as a blade cut across his arm.
Moira heard him roar as he bludgeoned his attacker to the ground. He continued to smash the corpse’s bones even after the fire left its body.
Moira grabbed a pistol and shot a revenant behind him, then she grabbed another pistol and shot another.
“Flynn.” She called as she reached for him.
Flynn hit her with the flat of the shovel. Moira grabbed her forearm as she stumbled backwards.
“Damn it, Flynn, Calm down.”
He paid no mind to her as he buried the shovel into a corpses chest.
Heavy footsteps caused Moira to turn around.
A paw flung to the ground. Moira griped her weapon tight as she rolled across the ground.
The beast snarled as it lumbered on top of her. It reared onto its back legs as Moira rolled on to her back and pointed her blunderbuss.
She blasted a hole in the undead creature’s chest, bones and fur exploded out of its back. Moira shielded her face from the green flames that pored out of creature.
Her weapon was torn from her grasp as the bear batted it away before collapsing to the ground beside her.
Another volley of gunfire sounded, and Moira took a breath.
The beast bellowed as it struggled back to it’s feet. Several revenants shuffled towards her.
Moira pushed herself to her feet, grabbed her gun and ran back to Flynn.
Moira stabbed her bayonet into the last of the revenants surrounding Flynn.
He stood bloodied, suffering from a dozen cuts across his arms and back. His shoulders heaved with the shovel tight in his grasp.
Moira grabbed his shoulders. “Are you alright.”
He didn’t respond as he stared at the horde.
“Come on Flynn, we need to go.”
He turned to her and nodded and rushed to the cabin with her.
Fergus reached down for them. “Hurry.”
Moira reached up as she heard the roar behind them.
“Aw shit, move.” Fergus yelled as the bear charged towards the cabin.
Moira and Flynn leaped out of the way of the beast as it crashed into the building. Fergus stumbled backwards onto the roof. The guard accompanying him slipped forwards and cried as he fell on top of the beast.
Fergus yelled down below him. “Hold on, I’ll open the door.”
Moira got back on her feet first and leaped at the creature, driving her blade through what was left of its back.
The beast reared onto its back feet allowing the now recovered guard to thrust his bayonet into its throat. The bear thrashed from side to side, dislodging both of its attackers. Moira tumbled to her feet as the guard stumbled backwards.
Flynn charged the creature and brought the shovel down on it’s forelimb fracturing the joint. Moira stabbed her blade into the beasts back legs, driving it back on all fours. It collapsed onto the ground.
Flynn chopped into the creature’s neck. The blow severed its spine causing the flame within to extinguish.
A dozen more revenants were upon them before they could catch a breath.
The trio back up to the cabin door.
“Fergus.” Flynn yelled. “We need that door open now.”
Moira struck out at corpses piercing one of their skulls. A revenant struck at her, but she twisted her weapon to catch the blade. She flicked the weapon back, slicing through there neck.
Pain lanced through her left shoulder was pierced by a blade. Moira cried out and fell against the wall, gripping the rusted blade.
Her attacker hissed as it yanked the blade out and raised the blade for another strike. A shovel caved in their chest making them crumple to the ground with their bloodied blade.
“Moira.” Flynn called as he leaped in front of her.
She turned to see the guard die as an axe was buried into his chest. Moira cried out in pain as she tried lifting her arm.
Blood poured through her fingers.
“Fergus.” Flynn cried, a blade bit into his forearm.
The door remained firmly shut as the undead bore down on them.
